It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Mr. Filiberto Castañeda. He was a founding member of Big Creek Group, a pioneering figure, and a dedicated farmer. Many knew Mr. Fil as a devoted banana farmer, having begun his journey as a founding member of the banana cooperative, which is now known as Farm 4.
Mr. Fil’s expertise in banana cultivation led him to join the Fyffes team after the company acquired several banana farms, and eventually, he established his own farm. He was the “encyclopedia” of banana farming, sharing his extensive knowledge with countless individuals. His contributions to the banana industry were felt both locally and internationally.
Originally from Corozal, Mr. Fil moved to Independence, where he remained deeply involved in the banana industry up until his passing. He was a vital part of Big Creek Group from its inception to the present day.
The directors, management, and staff of Big Creek Group extend their sincere condolences to Mr. Fil’s family: his wife, Mrs. Isabel; his daughter, Yasmin; and his sons, Ian, Emmanuel, and Philpete.
