It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Mr. Augustine Cruz of Independence. Mr. Cruz was a devoted father, who contributed his part to the banana industry. He was one of the founding members of the technical team that took over the agricultural stewardship of the banana industry following its privatization of the industry.

Mr. Cruz not only was a part of the Independence community, but also of the banana industry up to the time of his passing. Mr. Cruz left his mark and will forever be remembered for his technical expertise and inputs to the industry. He was one of the first Zamorano graduates to apply his agronomic knowledge to the banana industry. Our sincere condolences to his family as he was laid to rest today. May he rest in peace.
