New Year, Better Me!
At the beginning of every new year, it is very typical to make New Year's resolutions, a promise to do something differently or try something new. Of course, there is always the health and fitness concern which results in a diet resolution.  However, no matter how simple or spontaneous they can be, do they really work?

It is great to start the new year with good intentions and a positive perspective, as it can bring more hope and happiness to the start of your year. However, after January, when life is back into full flow of routine and normality, the perseverance of jogging the Big Creek Road every morning for example can take its toll and the newness wears off.

Typical resolutions like going to the gym or walking more can be fulfilling to start a new year, but are mostly short-lived. Simple and sweet resolutions should be the way forward! Sometimes we try too hard and push ourselves to be a new person in many ways, so why don't we just take a step back and think of a way we can benefit from others around us for a happier way of life.

Let's simply try to be more sincere in the way we are daily: smile more with each other, laugh at least twice a day, write a positive thing that has happened to you during the day, no matter how plain and simple. Through these humble gestures, you will better yourself on the inside and glow from the outside. Let's take the pressure away from attempting to be a new me but strive to be a better me!

Did you know?

In the late 80’s the then Chairman of the Irish-owned Company, Fyffes, Mr. John Ellis, a former Vice Chairman of United Brands Fruit Company, a visionary and strong advocate of the Belize banana industry, with the assistance of Craig Griffith, a retired Investment banker, coordinated with the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC), Barclays Bank International, and Fyffes to fund the construction of the Port of Big Creek. This much needed investment, along with the Government of Belize, Fyffes and other multilateral agencies provided the funding for the change in the Banana Industry that would, today, see the once fragile industry of 1,200 acres grow to 7,000 acres, since then production has grown to 5 – 6 million boxes annually, and the manual operations at a one-berth port, transformed into a full deep water port terminal facility, the Port of Big Creek.

Nutrition Goal
Keep a food diary to help you stay honest about what you are eating.

Once you have your diary, you should log several pieces of information in it each time you eat and drink.  These include:

How much

List the amount of the food and drink you consume each time. This might be measured in volume (such as 1/2 cup), weight (such as 2 ounces), or the number of items (such as 12 chips). We move through projects in a goal-oriented way.
What kind

Write down the type of food and drink. Be as specific as you can. Don’t forget to write down extras, such as toppings, sauces, dressings, or condiments. Examples include butter, ketchup, or sugar. We move through projects in a goal-oriented way.
Who with

If you eat by yourself, write “alone.” If you’re with friends or family members, list them.
Activity

List any activities you do while you eat or drink. You could be working, watching TV, or playing a game.
Mood

You also should include how you feel when you eat and drink.  Are you happy, sad, or bored?  Your mood can impact what and when you eat or drink.
Things to consider

In order to succeed, your diary needs to tell the truth. You won't gain anything by cheating to look good.  Share your food diary with your doctor.  He or she can review it and help you make a plan for a healthier lifestyle, if needed.

Positive Thoughts

Overthinking is the biggest cause of our unhappiness.  Keep yourself occupied. Keep your mind off things that don't help you.
Be optimistic!

Riddle me this ...

What two things can you never eat for breakfast?
